Application of Phase-contrast X-ray Microtomography to Study the Internal Structures of Rhodnius Prolixus

چکیده
The PhC-SR-μCT is a nondestructive technique that allows the microanatomical investigations and 3D images reconstructions within a short time. This technique performed in blood sucker, Rhodnius prolixus – one of the most important primary vectors of of Trypanosoma cruzi, ethiologic agent of Chagas’ disease in Latin America and also the most well-know studied insect in terms of both physiology and vector-parasite interactions. However, little is known about the development and structure of its internal organs. The aim of this work is to provide a non-invasive option for studying the internal structures of the main vector of Chagas’ disease, which should help to answer important questions concerning anatomy, development, structure and plasticity of insect in general. Three-dimensional rendering images can provide a detailed knowledge of the interior of the insect, which is crucial for a better understanding of its function and evolution.

Applications of X-ray synchrotron microtomography for non-destructive 3D studies of paleontological specimens
Paleontologists are quite recent newcomers among the users of X-ray synchrotron imaging techniques at the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF). Studies of the external morphological characteristics of a fossil organism are not sufficient to extract all the information for a paleontological study. Nowadays observations of internal structures become increasingly important, but these obs...
متن کاملDescription of a new genus and two new species of Leiodidae (Coleoptera) from Baltic amber using phase contrast synchrotron X-ray microtomography
A new genus and two new amber fossil species of Leiodidae are described: Catops perkovskyi sp. n. (Cholevinae Cholevini) and Tafforeus cainosternus gen. n., sp. n. (Leiodinae Pseudoliodini); using virtual dissection by propagation phase contrast synchrotron X-ray microtomography, which allows for visualization of the genital structures in a noninvasive way. The external and internal morphology ...

The salivary anticoagulant of the blood-sucking bug Rhodnius prolixus was purified to homogeneity using a protocol consisting of weak cation-exchange, DEAE, hydrophobic-interaction and octadecyl reverse-phase chromatography, yielding a protein with the same N-terminal sequence as nitrophorin 2, one of the four NO haem protein carriers present in the salivary glands of Rhodnius with a molecular ...
متن کاملTwo new fossil species of Omaliinae from Baltic amber (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae) and their significance for understanding the Eocene-Oligocene climate
Two fossil species, Paraphloeostiba electrica sp.n. and Phyllodrepa antiqua sp.n. (Staphylinidae, Omaliinae), are described from Baltic amber. Their external and relevant internal structures are illustrated using propagation phase contrast synchrotron microtomography. The palaeobiogeogaphy of the two genera, the thermophilous Paraphloeostiba, the temperate Phyllodrepa, as well as palaeoenvironm...
متن کاملMolecular Genetics Reveal That Silvatic Rhodnius prolixus Do Colonise Rural Houses
BACKGROUND Rhodnius prolixus is the main vector of Chagas disease in Venezuela. Here, domestic infestations of poor quality rural housing have persisted despite four decades of vector control. This is in contrast to the Southern Cone region of South America, where the main vector, Triatoma infestans, has been eliminated over large areas. The repeated colonisation of houses by silvatic populatio...
